There are two common ways to complete your piercing training, and become a registered / insured body piercer.
This is through an apprenticeship or taking courses.
Apprenticeships are a good way to train because they are usually 1 to 1, and are done over a number of months / years. However they can be hard to come by, be full time unpaid work and can take a while before you are able to perform piercings as you usually begin cleaning, working the desk, and being an assistant for a while before becoming hands on, this is to prove dedication, and observe your mentor.
Piercing courses are a common way to begin piercing career, they are however not viewed as "the best way" (despite this being one of the ways to gain a piercing licence and insurance) this is because it is a fast way to gain access to the piercing industry, also some courses are set with the intentions that you can leave, and begin piercing straight away, which is possible once you have the correct licence and insurance. However a professional reputable course provider will advice that you should continue to learn, and gain experience before completing piercings without guidance or advice. Piercing courses supplied by professional piercing training academies also, usually include intensive training, supply informational booklets and training manuals to refer to, during and after training, live models to work with, and among other things additional services / contact after the original course. Course providers usually advise that you take additional training such as first aid, blood borne pathogens, and infection control with companies that specialise in thee fields (this can also be expected from someone training as an apprentice, as companies that specialise in these courses can provide you with certification on these subjects). Courses are also a great way to decide if this career path is right for you, without wasting time being an apprentice first, as well as being able to complete this course along side your current job, and not have to be distracted when training, or become overwhelmed with having to work along side it.
At Acute Plus you will be trained by a professional piercer, that has over 5 years experience, and holds a recognised teaching qualification. We only offer piercing courses at Acute Plus, and follow all stated above including, additional training, and a training book, as well as other teaching techniques that insure you are trained to a high standard and feel comfortable to inform us if you are not.
As a piercer you would usually continue training throughout your career wether you train as an apprentice or take a course, that could be taking other piercing courses allowing you gain vast amounts of experiences from a number of piercers there fore developing your skill set.
Piercing courses such as the one we offer are given as a start up to the industry and you will not be considered a professional piercer after training, this is usually the case with an apprenticeship as well becoming a professional piercer can take years of experience and study as well as hands on work and the first year of this career should be about gaining a skill set and working towards being a professional piercer. Our course does not end at 5 days we are available for additional guidance after training, wether it be via video message, text, call or in person, we will be available to assist you. You will also be added to a Acute Plus Piercing Academy Facebook group where you can become a part of a wider support system, and a helpful place to connect with other piercers trained at Acute Plus.
For a small fee we can offer additional hands on mentoring after your 5 day course, we can offer more training with live models to re-evaluate your confidence and follow up on anything that you need to.
The course will begin at 10 am, and end at 5 pm, we may finish sooner on our final day. Everything you need will be provided for the course, including paper, stationary, training book and more. Also Tea, coffee and water will be provided on the course, we will have short breaks through out the day. We are close to supermarkets and you can purchase your lunch here, or you can bring lunch with you, we do have a kettle microwave and toaster available for use.
You can get in touch with your local council to request the piercing bylaws, from the Environmental Health Agency for your location. Before training we do advise for you to look into this, as well as other council requirements to allow you to gain a licence.
You will receive certification at the end of your course, this is proof of training and allows you to gain insurance and licence with your local council, providing you follow their regulations, we can not be held responsibly for your inability to gain insurance and a licence, your certification is not a guarantee to obtain both licence and insurance, and it is your responsibility to gain information on these requirements prior to training by contacting your local council (area you will be piercing) and your desired insurance company.
